Walkathon, 4/28
Walkathon is right around the corner. Seriously. If you look hard enough, you'll be able to see it. It may be hazy and a wee bit blurry, but it's right there and we don't have a lot of time left. Here's a couple things you'll want to know:
- participants can either be sponsored based on distance or a lump sum
- local business sponsorships are welcomed
- those who want to participate will need to raise $25 to walk
- students win prizes based on amount of sponsorships they receive
- April 24th is the deadline to turn in pledges
- no one is required to participate. Students who opt out will remain in class
- PE shorts (to the knee) may be worn - please bring regular dress code clothing to change into after walkathon is complete
Now let's talk about prizes.
- $50 raised = 2 hour fun day pass (preK-6th)
- $50 raised = 7th-12th = 1 exam day permit (this is gold and allows your student to leave school after they've finished taking their exams for the day)
- $100 - 4 hour fun day pass (preK-6th)
- $100 - 7th-12th - 3 day exam permit - this would be better than gold. Is that platinum? Again, this allows your 7th-12th grader to leave after they finish their exams for the day 3 days in a row
- $250 - lunch credit of $25
- $500 - lunch credit of $50
- $1000 - lunch credit of $100
- $5000 - tuition credit of $1000
- $10,000 - tuition credit of $2,500
Remember, we're working toward enhancing security on campus here at FRCS. Definitely a worthwhile cause! You can read all about it here.
No School, 4/18
Does your brain feel like it needs a break? Well if it does or doesn't, be prepared to play host to your student this Friday - er, tomorrow - as there will be no school in honor of Good Friday. Enjoy your weekend!
Easter Sunday, 4/20
We would love it if you and your family joined us this Sunday at 10:30 am to celebrate Easter with us here at FRBC. There will be something for everyone from the smallest of us to the biggest of us, including an exciting Easter candy hunt for the kids. Trust me. You won't want to miss this one.

Teacher Appreciation Week, 5/5-5/9
Psssst...! Just wanted to give you all a quick heads up. Teacher Appreciation Week will be May 5th through May 9th. There will be a spot to leave a note for your favorite teacher or staff member in the gym lobby. Please stop by and drop them a line. Sometimes just a simple word of encouragement can go a long way to making a rough day better.
Let's finish this year out strong - together!
101 Random April Facts
- The name April comes from the Latin word 'aperire' which means "to open". Seems like a well-named month, in my opinion.
- April is National Grilled Cheese month. Which really helps out in my menu making decisions.
- April 26th is National Pretzel Day. Unfortunately, there's no good way to turn this into dinner.
- The Titanic hit an iceberg April 14th, 1912 at 11:30.
- The NFL draft is typically held in April. And I personally know a person who is nearly glued to the tv during this time.
- The Boston Marathon is usually held on the 3rd Monday in April.
- The Civil War started in April, 1861.
- April's flower is the sweet pea and the birth stone is the diamond. Making any mother jewelry gift rather expensive. Ask me how I know...
- And one clarification - last week I mentioned that Hippopotamus milk is pink and I had questions. Well, one of you helped answer those questions and for honesty's sake, this has been deemed a false statement. Hippo milk is white/beige just like ordinary milk (still grosses me out thinking about hippo milk, I don't know why. Just go with it.) But it has been stated that it's possible this rumor started because when they sweat, it turns...pink. And when that sweat is mixed with the white or beige milk, well, I think you know what would happen. It would end up looking pink.
