Walkathon, 4/28

And just like that, it's time to talk about Walkathon. Each year we try to raise support for enhancements around our school. You know how it is. As soon as you think things are looking good and everything is excellent and wonderful and you have finally finished all your projects, six years have passed and it's time to upgrade. Every husband reading this understands. Probably even us ladies too if we're being honest.

If you have a vague memory of students raising money for security purposes just a few years ago, don't worry. You haven't lost your mind. No you are not plummeting down that pothole-ridden, memory-stealing road called old age. Not at all.

No. The plan here is to add enhancements. To grow and build upon the foundation that has been laid. To make our school even safer. Things like enhanced perimeter safety. Gates that help control vehicles entering and exiting the campus. An advanced crisis alert system to help in cases of emergencies, great or small.

If you'd like to read more about this project, you may do so here at this link. Or, if you're already on board and would like to donate to this project, you may do so at the same link. See how easy that is?

While you're there, go ahead and scroll down and read all about it. Get the facts. Don't want to read all about it? Ready to jump in and start asking businesses around you for support? Yep. Same link. Wear it out. ;)

Field Day, 4/11

Just in case you missed it in the last couple Parent Pages, (if you have missed it, please don't tell me because sometimes I do judge and I don't want to take it personally) tomorrow, Friday the 11th, we will be having Elementary Field Day. I know I'm old, but I still remember the races I won. The hurdles I jumped. The tug of wars and baton relays. The only thing that was different all those years ago?

I had to do all of it uphill both ways in the snow with one hand tied behind my back. Yea. We were barbarians back then. Seriously. When we tossed that egg? Oh yea. It was chucked full force at your face and it was not hard boiled. I won't even tell you how brutal Red Rover was. Trust me. You knew real fast how many people liked you with that one.

So parents of elementary students, please come prepared. You might want a coat. A scarf, gloves, umbrella, PE shorts, leggings to go under those shorts if your student is a girl, or sunscreen. All the things. All of them.

We will meet at the flagpole at 8:15 to kick off the day.

Achievement Testing, 4/14-4/17

Remember, April 14th through the 17th, we will be starting Achievement Testing so be sure to get a good night's rest, eat a great breakfast, and bring some snacks, because the little gray cells will be working over time this entire week.

If they come home and say their brains feel like jelly, yea. You should probably believe them.

No excused absences this week.

No School, 4/18

It works out perfectly, if you ask me. Work the brain super hard and right as you think you can't take anymore, we will not have school Friday the 18th.

Yes. This is not a prank. There will be no school on Friday and as much as I'd love to say that I went to bat for you and begged and pleaded until they caved...I cannot take the credit for this one. I am not the hero.

Because...

Sunday is Easter, 4/20

If you don't have any plans or you don't have a church home, we would love it if you graced us with your presence as we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ here at FRBC. Services will start at 10:30 in the church auditorium.

There will be candy hunts, prizes, and Easter related funness for the kiddos as well. Just not in the auditorium because that would be a bit distracting.

All joking aside, this is not only a perfect time to reflect on what God did for you, but to make sure that you know Jesus as your personal Saviour. Have you asked Him into your heart? Do you have peace and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that one day you will go to Heaven? If you'd like more information, we would love to help you. Click here.

TACS State Competition Results

Remember those 2 days before the official start of Spring Break on March 31st? Yea, those were TACS Fine Arts State Competition here at the school and let me tell you, there are quite a lot of students here that really knocked it out of the park and they should be so proud of themselves. In fact, they did so good, I have a list with details. Click below and be wowed by their awesomeness. Then, when you see them in person, be sure to congratulate them.

If you weren't able to be in more than one place at a time and wanted to really see more than you did, here you go. Enjoy these pictures of our students. I'm telling you. They really did a great job and we're proud of every single one who tried out.

101 Random

  • Ok so. Hippopotamus milk (yes. Hippo milk is a thing. It's a thing I didn't realize was a thing until right now, but here we are.) is pink. I have so many questions! And just for honesty's sake, this has been deemed a false statement. Hippo milk is white/beige just like ordinary milk (still grosses me out thinking about hippo milk, I don't know why. Just go with it.) But it has been stated that it's possible this rumor started because when they sweat, it turns...pink. And when that sweat is mixed with the white or beige milk, well, I think you know what would happen. It would end up looking pink.
  • If a donkey and a zebra were to have a baby, it would be called a...wait for it...zonkey! There's a book waiting to happen right here, people.
  • Glass balls, yes, glass balls, can bounce higher than rubber ones. First. Would this be a marble or a larger ball? Where would we find this ball? Why wouldn't this ball break? What is the purpose for a ball like this? If you have answers to any of these, please email me directly. Thank you.
  • There is a town in Wales called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll llantysiliogogogoch. Ok so. I just watched a video on how to pronounce this gem, and honestly, I would have started the Heimlich Maneuver if I had heard it in public. Whew. So glad that disaster can be avoided now. And if I ever tell you I'm going to visit the town of Blah, just know that I have shortened it and this is the place I'm referring to.
  • I've heard that if you eat too many carrots, you will actually turn orange. If you see someone who is orange, please let me know. I'd like to see this.

Tomorrow is the day the EFS applications roll-out. 12:00 noon is the time, so please, have all your documents uploaded and stored on your computer for ease of access because as soon as the clock tolls 12, things may get congested and a little bit laggish. I didn't see very many wet eyes Monday morning, I didn't hear screaming and gnashing of teeth (yes, I'm talking about parents), and I didn't have a bunch of kiddos in my office asking for medicine at 8:05. I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
