Remember to turn your clock back 1 hour this Saturday evening for Daylight Savings Time!

Early Voting Ends 10/31; Election Day - 11/5

It only comes around every 4 years - the chance to choose who will lead our country for the next term.  Everyone has an opinion. Everyone wants a say. It saddens me to hear people say things like, my vote won't count, or, it doesn't matter anyway so I'm just not going to.

It does matter. It's a chance to voice your opinion. To have some input regarding the biggest job in the country. Seems rather important, doesn't it?

Tomorrow is the last day you can early vote and skip big lines. Be heard. Do your duty - whether your candidate wins or not - at least you had a say. And you took part in one of the freedoms we have as Americans.

The actual day to vote (with those super duper long lines) is November 5th. Don't miss this chance to make history. Yes, history. No matter the outcome, you can be proud of the fact that you had a say in it.

Lost & Found Sale, 10/30-11/1

If you or your child has lost something recently and have been a little timid to approach the yawning maw of the lost & found bins, you're in luck. Wednesday through Friday, the sale is going on. And yes. We have a lot of stuff to find new homes for. Dig in - everything's $1.

Preschool Closed, 11/1

This Friday, Preschool will be closed. So take this opportunity to enjoy your kiddos - they're only young once and trust me. The little things become the big things and life goes by pretty fast. There's only 1 today and you're in it.

Set Clocks Backward, 11/3

Are you one of those people who just loved jumping forward an hour in March of this year? Or are you one who grumbled and complained and moaned and groaned about losing an hour and looked feverishly toward getting it back in November? (And are convinced that your body still hasn't recovered.) If you're the first group, congratulations. I believe you're in the minority. And I'm not sure we can be friends. That might be something you shouldn't tell others, so let's tuck that crazy back in, shall we? Are you a barbarian or something? Geesh, I ask you.

Anyway, this Saturday/Sunday remember that you gain an hour of sleep. And if you don't have a smart phone or atomic clock, you will need to manually adjust your clocks at 2 am. (Did anyone in the good ole days actually get up at 2 am and do it, or were you a rebel and changed it before you went to bed?)  Or simply remember to add an hour if you're not inclined to do so. I've seen many cars with wrong times in my day because when I was a kid, you used to have to have a portable sun-dial and calibrate it to...I'm kidding. It really wasn't that bad.

Class Pictures/Individual Retakes, 11/11

Did you see little Ryan's pictures and wonder how in the world you're going to explain to Aunt Edna that no, he doesn't hate the sweater she gave him, but that you forgot to put him in it on picture day? (And that's also why his hair is randomly stuck flat to the right side of his head, making him look very lopsided.)

Or maybe your student loves his/her class and wants a momento to cherish for years to come?

Great news. Class pictures and individual retakes are heading this way on November 11th. This is also the perfect time to have new student's pictures taken. Two birds, one stone, know what I mean?

Jacket Time

Either it's autumn in Tennessee, or this state is having alternating hot flashes and cold sweats. Whatever it is, it's time to make sure your student brings their jacket to school. When the classes go outside, they may want it. Unless it's 89 degrees, then they should probably leave it hanging on the hook in their classroom so they don't lose it.

Just saying, bring a jacket. They may want it.

Seeing Into the Future

Got you, didn't I. Ha. Keep reading to be in the know about what's coming up next here at FRCS:

  • 11/17-11/20 - Missions Conference
  • 11/26 - Thanksgiving Luncheon
  • 11/27 - 11:30 Dismissal
  • 11/28-11/29 - No School - Thanksgiving Break

Sports Corner

What has 24 feet, 240 digits and 7 years under its belt? The FRCS Varsity Volleyball team, of course! A huge shoutout to the Varsity Volleyball team for taking their 7th TACS Championship in a row. Gracie Tidwell was named MVP, and Emma Dugger and Ellee English made All Tournament. Way to go!

The boys soccer team closed out their season losing in the semi finals, 2-1, but it was a fun ending to a fun season. If you're wondering what you're going to do without soccer and volleyball, don't worry. Basketball is right around the corner and will more than meet that sport's craving you have. :)

101 Random

Send your answers in, WITHOUT using Google, and I'll put your name in a bowl for every correct answer. At the end of the month, 1 lucky person will win a Hershey bar!

Last week's answers:
  • What do these have in common: corn, snow, dandruff - flakes
  • What do these have in common: Morse code, Pac-Man, web address - they have dots
  • Which of these do not belong: Heathcliff, Garfield, Polk, Taft - Heathcliff was not a president
  • Which does not belong: adder, cobra, salsa, mamba - salsa is not a poisonous snake
  • What do these have in common: Little Red Riding Hood, hot air balloon, grocery store - they all have baskets
This week's questions:
  • What's a person suffering from panophobia afraid of?
  • What color is a pure marble?
  • What three whole numbers divide into 9 equally?
  • What was the pig's house that the wolf couldn't blow down made of?
  • What board game has an apologetic name?
Well, isn't that interesting?!
  • You've always heard that Octopuses have tentacles. But that isn't exactly true. They're actually arms, as most scientists define the term tentacles as a limb with a sucker at the end. As you know, octopuses have suckers going down the entire length of their arm. Ew no. I can't. Sorry. They will forever be tentacles to me. Can't change it now.
  • The longest anyone has held their breath underwater was 24.5 minutes. Yes. Minutes. Which would take you a quarter through Finding Nemo (with a little wiggle room). This is very humbling to me as I can't seem to hold my breath whilst walking down the hall. Is that an age thing?
  • Giraffes hum to communicate with other giraffes which helps them reunite during the dark. Not going to lie. If I heard a giraffe hum, I wouldn't admit it even if someone else did and mentioned it first. Nope. No way. I'm just going to go on my merry little way in the other direction. As fast as I can.

I didn't see very many wet eyes Monday morning, I didn't hear screaming and gnashing of teeth (yes, I'm talking about parents), and I didn't have a bunch of kiddos in my office asking for medicine at 8:05. I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
