WCBC Tournament Results

Is it just me or did last week seem to last forever? It's just not the same here with the entire boys and girls varsity basketball teams gone. Just going to throw that out there.

But the good news is, other than everyone is back and everyone seems to be happy, our boys and girls both took 1st place. How awesome is that?!

MVP was Kate Madison and Judson Bjornstad, All Tournament B went to Bryleigh Dempsey, Gracie Tidwell, and Noah Pence and All Tournament A went to Presley Applegate, Kate Madison Bjornstad, and Judson Bjornstad.

Congratulations y'all - we're so proud of you and we're so glad to have y'all back!

Another Heartfelt Thanks

We'd like to take a quick minute and send out another hearty and heartfelt thank you to Goodness Gracious (home of the best pancakes on the planet, in my opinion) and Chick-fil-A, Smyrna (the best Chick-fil-A anywhere, if you ask me) for all the help y'all did with fundraising so our teams could make it out to California. We couldn't have done it without you and we appreciate your support so much!

No School This Coming Monday - 2/20

President's Day is Monday. Which means there will be no school here at FRCS. However. If you don't feel that's very fair because some of you may still have to work, please feel free to make your kids do some sort of menial tasks that will make your day easier. You have our permission. But you didn't really need it anyway.

Enjoy your day.

Sickness Policy

I don't think anyone reading this will be in disbelief, but this past week I have had quite a few visitors to the office asking for a temperature check. Or telling me their stomach hurts. Or their head hurts. Or they just threw up. Or...well, you get the picture. It's just been a mess, really.

While I'm always happy to help make your child feel better, I really don't like having my counter marinated in whatever was eaten that morning or that afternoon. And let me tell you, I don't want to have to scrub my carpet again. I'm going to have to buy a new bristle brush as it is. It's kind of weird, but every time I'm down on my hands and knees, I feel like someone should be whistling and I look around for several dwarfs to be helping me. Which never happens. Does this mean that instead of a Disney princess I'm one of the villains? Ponder this I will.

Anyway. All that to say this. If your child says they don't feel well, please take a minute and really think about it before sending them into school. All it takes is one tiny tiny germ from an un-well child to create a big big problem.

Think of it this way:

When in doubt, keep them out.

Fine Arts Districts Results

We would like to congratulate all our fine students that are advancing to the next level of Fine Arts competition. We're super proud of each and every one of you who tried out and we look forward to what God is going to do with you!

TSIAA Tournament, 2/13-2/18

I realize the week is nearly over and that means the TSIAA Tournament is winding down, but you have another chance to come out and support our fine basketball teams. Make plans to be there tonight and cheer them on. I'm not gonna lie, the last time I was at the game, those visitors kind of put FRCS fans to shame. We need to be louder. Louder, not ruder. You get my point.

Re-enrollment and Sibling Enrollment

It has begun. Sibling enrollment is here and they have been chomping at the bit to secure their spot in school. If you haven't brought your registration fee in yet, do not delay. Get it here as soon as you can before all the spots are gone and I have to learn a lot of new names.

End of Another Quarter, 3/3

I'm not sure you realize it yet, but you're looking at the end of quarter 3. As in the third quarter. Which leaves us only one more. Quarter four before summer begins. Suddenly it looks like we're going to make it, doesn't it? When we look at the small steps instead of the big picture, things begin to look a lot more doable.

Which means - make sure you have all your tests and quizzes done. (I have a very thick folder in my office with many, many names on the pages held therein. Please. Put my folder on a diet and make it much thinner. Thank you.)

And don't forget to get all your homework done as well. Not turned in homework does affect your grade and it's an easy way to keep them up so make sure you're up to date on all your stuff.

Quarter ends: March 3rd

Report Cards come home: March 9th

Chappie James 1920-1978

Chappie James, born February 11, 1920 and died in 1978, was the first African-American to reach the rank of full general. A five star general in a time when that didn't occur. From Pensacola, Florida, Chappie was a member of the elite Tuskegee Airmen, a group of trained airmen that flew with great distinction in quite a few battles, garnering some of the most envied military records in history.

Fighting in three wars, including both the Korean war and Vietnam, Chappie flew over 160 combat missions, he led the Bolo MiG sweep of 21 Communist aircraft, becoming one of the most successful ambush actions in U.S. military history.

While life wasn't perfect for Chappie James, he was a patriot until the day he died, once stating that "having fought in three wars, three more wouldn't be too many to defend my country. I love America, and as she has weaknesses or ills, I'll hold her hand."

101 Random

  • The Florida Everglades is the largest wetland in the United States. And it really isn't that beautiful, either when you're stuck in a minivan with your kids and your significant other refuses to go over speed limit.
  • Most people think Georgia is the biggest producer of peaches, but it's the blueberries that are the real moneymaker for the southern state.
  • Contrary to popular belief, pineapples are not native to Hawaii but instead are native to Brazil and Paraguay. I'm not sure I believe this, though, and I'm willing to take a trip to Hawaii to see for myself.
  • Most people think that Maine is the easternmost state of the United States, but they're wrong. Actually, it's the Semisopochnoi Island in Alaska.
  • I bet you think that Rhode Island is the least populated state in the United States, but you would be incorrect. Actually, that distinction goes to Wyoming. Which is weird. Because it's the tenth largest state.

I didn't see very many wet eyes Monday morning, I didn't hear screaming and gnashing of teeth (yes, I'm talking about parents), and I didn't have a bunch of kiddos in my office asking for medicine at 8:05. I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
