Grandparents' Day...um...
It was going to be super cute. There was going to be singing. The kids were going to be dressed up and excited and it was all planned out to make you Grandparents feel extra special. (As if being a grandparent wasn't enough. There's just something about holding your grandbaby or spending time with your grandkids that makes all those hard days raising your kids worth it.) But it would have been super wonderful and blessed and exciting to have a whole event centered around you, wouldn't it?
Unfortunately, we've had to cancel Grandparents Day. There was a fire in the church auditorium and well, we tried to figure out a way to have this event, we really did. But it's just not going to happen.
Before you throw rocks or stick your tongues out at us, (yes, I saw you) we offer a compromise. A peace offering, if you will. While there won't be a program, or singing, or cuteness overload on a stage, you will be allowed to take them out for lunch and...(wait for it)...keep them out the rest of the day! Is that awesome or what? So yea, fill out the form letting us know that your child will indeed be checked out by grammy or gramps at 11:00 and if they'll be returning or staying out the rest of the day. (We do need to know if they're coming back. We'd hate to have something for the ones who didn't get to leave and nothing for the one who surprised us coming back. You know. Feeling left out and all isn't a nice feeling.)
Please have your forms turned back into the teacher no later than Wednesday, September 7th.
**For all you 7th-12th graders that are intent on skipping half a day of school, you are not allowed to go. Sorry. You had your time when you were younger. This is only for Preschool through 6th grade. But before you grumble too loudly, remember you get Merit Day. ;)
We would like to take a moment to congratulate all those who made the team or the group - whichever group or team that may be - and say thank you to all who tried out. It's not always possible to have everyone on the team but we are so very proud of each and every one who tried out. We do appreciate your time and effort and we look forward to seeing what is in store for FRCS this year!
New Parents Meeting - 9/6
You told them to be brave and that things wouldn't be that bad. They'd make new friends fast and they'd really enjoy school. That's what you said so you very well couldn't curl up in a corner and cry now, could you. No. You had to be brave. You had to smile and wave and encourage them to walk forward and into the gym into a mass of kids they didn't know. Even though it twisted your heart to watch them walk away.
But you have so many questions. There are things you need to know. And this is a big school, so to whom are you supposed to ask all your questions?!
New Parents, I'm so glad you're reading this, because this is for you. Meet us here September 6th at 7:00 PM in the Commons and you can ask any questions you have. Please though. Keep the questions to the important things. Like ordering lunches. Not those things that no one can answer like how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. That's just silly. Because everyone knows he really wants tacos. Or tater tots. Probably tater tots but I can't prove that because I don't speak woodchuck. Any woodchuck whisperers out there? Can you help a girl out?
**Junior and Senior meetings will be held September 6th at 6:00 PM - Juniors in the Teen Room, and Seniors in the Choir Room.
Missing Forms
If I've said it once, I've said it, well, at least three times now because this is the 3rd parent page. And I know you're getting really tired of hearing it. Or reading it. Whatever.
Please turn your forms in as soon as possible. This includes the Authorization forms, the Photo Consent and Internet Web Policy, the Concussion Form (this is the white one that tells you about concussions and it's for using the gym) as well as any Sports Forms that need to be turned in.
I know. It's annoying when I email you or you get a stack of papers or worse, you get a child that's panicking because there's a game tomorrow and they still don't have a physical and Coach says they can't play because we still don't have their sports forms turned in. Trust me. I don't like it as much as you don't. It really does make me cringe.
So if you're not sure, please call the office and ask if we've gotten them. I've got a master list and I should be able to tell you fairly quickly (depending on how piled up my desk is) what we've got and what we still need.
Don't Forget...
I know, I
know, weekends are crazy busy. It's kinda weird how slow Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are. Things start to speed up a little on Thursday, and WHAM! It's Monday morning and you have no idea how you completely missed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. (Probably made you wonder once or twice about alien abductions being a real thing. jk)
And you forgot to order lunches. Again. Oi.
I get it. Trust me I do. I protect my Saturdays with a vengeance. Seriously. But we really do need you to either set a reminder on your phone or something and order those lunches before the cut off on Sunday night. The kitchen needs to know how much food to prepare. We thank you in advance. :)
RenWeb/FACTS
I understand that we're not all pros at using techie things. And by techie I could easily mean an Amazon Fire from ten years ago or that new play 'computer' someone got your three year old. So please, if you're having issues or troubles using RenWeb/FACTS, please contact the office and we will try to help you. Because this program really is the lifeline and you need to know how to use it. From ordering lunches to seeing homework past due, or grades, or even teacher emails because you have to ask a question, you'll use RenWeb/FACTS. And if it's giving you grief, we will try to help.
101 Random
- This week's Trivia Question: What is a baby whale called? (Remember, no Googling!)
- I haven't found very many people who actually like spiders. I know some people have those big hairy things as pets, and I feel very strongly that I cannot be friends with those people. I would have the heebie jeebies every single time I was around them. (I have been known to pull off the side of the road and jump out of my car when one of those creatures happened to be in my car and made it's nasty little self known. Ew ew ew ew. Again. Ew. Just in case you missed it.) But did you know that at one time, spider webs were used as bandages? True story. The ancient Grecians and Romans would swab wounds with the stuff. Let's just hope they diligently removed the occupants out before trying to use that on someone who couldn't get away. And let's all take a moment and thank the good Lord that He has allowed us such great advances in medicine.
- Just so you know, the next time you're on your paddle board in crocodile infested waters, if one were to grab you, your best bet for survival would be to poke its eyes. (So I've heard.) But if you're out there on a paddle board in crocodile infested waters, I really think you should probably start questioning your life choices because you're not doing a great job making the right ones to begin with. Just sharing my opinion, that's all.
- Remember last week (I think. Could have been the week prior. I dunno. Work with me here) how we talked a little bit about silk? Well, did you know that silk actually is so strong that a mosquito, who can get through a closed window in your bedroom in the middle of the night and buzz around your ear until you whack yourself senseless, cannot get through it? Interesting isn't it. And it's all from a worm.
- I love animals. I really do. Most of you know that I'm called the crazy cat lady and yes, it's true I love cats. And I love dogs. (But my dog has been testing my patience and has become a highly developed escape artist and I'm about to go bonkers. I kid you not, she must squish herself to the size of a gnat to get through tiny holes because I'm just not finding her route to freedom. Cue privacy fence here. If you know a guy, let me know. I'm desperate.) But I also love pandas, giraffes, and elephants. Seriously. I love them to pieces. I can stand and watch them at the zoo for hours. Did you know that an elephant tooth weighs around 9 pounds? How would you like to put one of those under your pillow?! It'd be awesome if the tooth fairy paid according to weight, wouldn't it?
