JV Boys State Tournament Results

I know you've been waiting on the edge of your seats and you've bitten your nails down to a jagged frazzle, but I've got the scoop. Congratulations goes out to our JV Boys Basketball team for placing 2nd last week in the JV State Tournament!

And be sure to congratulate Mason Alcorn, Peyton Applegate, Alex Hicks, and Benjamin Walker for making All Tournament!

TACS Varsity State Tournament, February 24th-26th

Why do we do tournaments? Why are these such a big deal? Well, if you're asking those questions, it's apparent that you have not gazed upon the trophy cases in front of the gym. Every team wants to add to the collection. It's a memorial - a physical reminder of when they were on a team. Something they can look at years down the road when they bring their own kids to the school to enroll. Or they get nostalgic and just want to wander down memory lane. With or without someone beside them.  Because for some of the players, this is their last year. The last wahoo before they turn in their uniform over to their coach.

You remember those times from your own high school era, don't you? Those bittersweet memories of when you were young and pretty much the only worry you had was if you were going to pass the exam or not. (My personal favorite memory from when I was young? Not paying any bills. Ahhh, those were the days, weren't they?)

Join us as we cheer on our Varsity Basketball teams for the TAACS Varsity State Tournament as they try to leave their mark and (hopefully) bring home a trophy to add to the case. Notice I did say trophy case and not elementary office. You saw that, right? I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to sneak it in there when I'm not looking. This seems to be a habit of Mr. Olsen's. And then he pretends to not know what I'm talking about when I mention it. Mmm hmm. Watch. It'll happen.

Book Fair, February 28th-March 3rd

Are you a parent of a Preschooler or Kindergartner who is just now learning to read? Or maybe you have a 1st or 2nd grader who loves to read by flashlight under the covers. Or maybe your child just likes to look through the pages on your lap as you read to them.

It really doesn't matter why you want them, it just matters that children who are read to or love to read, generally, well, love books more than the others. (And you thought I was going to get all scientific and expound all the benefits of reading. Fooled you, ha!)

FRCS will be hosting our first ever Book Fair featuring the fabulous books from our friends at Usborne, Monday, February 28th through March 3rd in the Grand Hall.

  • parents and students, feel free to peruse the tables Tuesday-Thursday morning from 7:45-8:30
  • as well as Monday-Thursday afternoon from 2:30-3:15

I don't know about you, but this person right here (use imagination to visually watch me point at myself) will definitely be purchasing quite a few books. First, don't judge me, there's no age limit and some of those kids' books are just too funny. (I mean, have you even read the Wonky Donkey or the Dinky Donkey? Yea. I laughed like a lunatic and used all the voices. I may need to grow up sometime soon. Or not. Life's short, laugh like a lunatic when you're given a chance. It may stop someone from kidnapping you because they just don't want to mess with your kind of crazy. Don't ask me how I know this.)

Enrollment - Time Is Running Out!

I know I'm beating the proverbial dead horse here, but this is always a tragic time for me and I'm trying to help you help me not be depressed and bitterly disappointed because...

February 15th, enrollment opened to current school families to enroll siblings who are not currently here at FRCS. And...that took up quite a few spots. So. If you did not pay by February 15th, I hate to say it, but a spot may not be available. Please. Bring in your registration fee of $300 (cash or check) to secure your spot. Don't wait until the end of this month - by then it may already be too late.

**Remember, just because your child is currently attending FRCS, that does not automatically reserve a spot for next year. We need that enrollment form and the registration fee of $300.

Well? Have You?

We are so close to the end of this quarter it gives me chills. Literally, if you could see me now, (first, I'd be embarrassed because I'm in my pajamas writing this and I really look scary) you would see the goosebumps on my arms because we all know what it means when I say...

...it's nearly the end of the 3rd quarter. Which takes us to...? Anyone? Bueller?

The. 4th. Quarter.

And at the risk of being Captain Obvious, that's the last quarter of the school year. We've almost made it. Do you see the magnitude of this?! So let me ask a couple more questions and then we will move onto the next section.

  • have you made up all your tests?
  • have you caught up with all your quizzes?
  • what about all your homework?

If you haven't, well, get crackin because you've only got two more weeks to get this taken care of. Let's finish this strong and get into the last quarter so we can focus on all the fun stuff like performances, plays, graduation, the Gala, you know. The fun stuff.

Juniors and Seniors, Listen Up! March 10th - March 11th

Were you looking forward to the Washington D.C. trip this year? Well I have bad news. It's not going to happen. Because we live in a cancel society. No. That's not why, but really, it has been canceled. But wait...there's more! (I love saying that and it's always in an announcer-type voice. I dunno. Maybe I have too much time on my hands.)

Instead, Juniors and Seniors you will be headed to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter March 10th-11th.

Which is pretty cool. You'll get a chance to actually see some of the things you've been taught, and probably in a way that you never imagined. You'll have your preconceptions challenged as you walk through the Ark Encounter and maybe you'll see what an awesome feat it actually was for Noah to build it without modern day power tools. Yea, he probably put Popeye to shame with his forearms.

Where'd Noah get water to drink or use to live? What about sunlight? What about living quarters for the families? What if dinosaurs didn't live 65 million years ago and dragons weren't just the bad guys in fairy tales but were, I dunno, real?

(Look people, I have questions, lots of them, and when I visited the Ark Encounter? A lot were answered, but on the flip-side, it really did open a can of worms for me. I wanted to read every single placard but apparently you have to be careful who you go with if you want to read everything. Some people are just impatient. Like my family. They always left me behind when we went places like this. And then laugh when I got lost. Like really lost. But let me tell you a trick. When your family does this to you, stand still, throw your head back and start yodeling their names at the top of your lungs. They come running back to you in a panic. And y'all think I'm so sweet...) :)

Not gonna lie. I'm stoked for you and a wee bit jealous for me. Please take lots of pictures to show me when you get back. Include a placard or two so I can read. It'll be a little while before we can head back there.

Spring Sports Info

What is it about this time of year that makes us all want to run around outside? Is it the unruly weather fluctuations when we're clearly prepared for a bright, sunny day and it drops an inch of rain right over where our game is? Is it because our uniforms are white? I ask you. Does this seem like a conspiracy to anyone else?

Anyway, we're going to have four teams this year.

  • MS Baseball (6th-8th grades)
  • Varsity Baseball (9th-12th grades)
  • Varsity Girls Softball (7th-12th grades)
  • Varsity Girls Soccer (7th-12th grades)
What you'll need before you play:
  • a current school year physical (not sure? Ask me. I have a list.)
  • TWO consent forms (no. I didn't make a mistake by including 2 of the very same form. I need both.)
  • SCA form (sudden cardiac arrest)
  • Athletic handbook form signed by both parent and player
  • $100 sports fee payable via cash or check

You have any other questions or concerns? Need to know something else? Well look at you asking all the questions, I'm so proud of you! Give me a call and I'll see if I can help you. Oh yea. Tryout times. Here you go:

  1. Varsity Girls Soccer - February 28th, 4:00-5:30
  2. Varsity Girls Softball - February 28th & March 1st, 3:15-4:45
  3. Middle School Baseball - February 28th & March 1st from 5:00-6:30
  4. Varsity Baseball - March 7th & 8th, 3:15-4:45

Black History Month

Harriet Tubman

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. - Harriet Tubman
  • Harriet was born in Maryland sometime between 1820 or 1821 as Araminta Ross but later changed her name in honor of her mother, Harriet Ross. Tubman was the surname of her first husband
  • In 1849, Harriet Tubman left for Pennsylvania, a free state. Her husband did not accompany her
  • It is believed that 100,000 slaves used the Underground Railroad - Harriet Tubman was 'conductor' of this railroad for 8 years and rescued over 70 slaves
  • Harriet joined the Union army as a nurse but also worked as a scout as well as a spy
  • She took part in the Combahee Ferry raid that helped free over 700 slaves at one time
  • Growing old did not stop Harriet from seeking freedom for herself as well as others - in her later years, she was still fighting - this time, for women's suffrage.
  • Harriet Tubman, the brave woman that battled many injustices and led the way for others, died March 10, 1913 and was buried with military honors.

I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
