Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
Why is that a saying? I mean, what if you don't like chicken dinners? Which I do, but I'm really wondering. What happens if you get a really picky person who hates just about everything except beef and potatoes? I know some people like that. It just doesn't quite roll off the tongue though does it? Winner winner, beef and potato dinner? Pretty confident I'd be tongue-tied and end up saying something very different and probably make everything awkward. Well, awkwarder than usual which is saying a lot.Anyway. The winners of District Fine Arts has been announced and we would like to congratulate each of you. This competition not only took time out of your lives, but it took determination and by the looks of it, some of you have been given an immense amount of talent from God. (I'm going to need your autographs please and thank you.)
To view the comprehensive list, and scroll, scroll, scroll until your heart is content, please click the embedded screen below. Want to keep it as a souvenir? By all means, print it. Want to make it extra special? Print it on colored paper. You're welcome.
Are you reading this? Or is someone reading this to you because you're super nervous and the words are a massive blur and you're terrified that you didn't make it? First of all, sit down and breathe.
For those who placed 1st or 2nd, State Competition will be held here at FRCS on March 24th and 25th. Please be here before your scheduled competition time (to keep us from having a heart attack thinking you're not going to show up. That's just not nice.) Yes it's true. We don't have school those days, but if you have progressed in competition this far, let's take it to the next level and show everyone who's got the stuff. In other words, be here. Or we will have to call you and harass you and make you miserable until you finally give in and get here.
Whew, that's a lot of words. Now, for the moment you all have been waiting for...here you go.
Re-enrollment
Unless you've paid a registration fee of $300 (cash or check) please do not assume that your child has a reserved spot in FRCS and just decide you're going to pay later. If you would like your student here, please please please come in and pay that registration fee as soon as you can. I kid you not, spaces are extremely limited and people are waiting in line already.
State Fine Arts & Spring Break
As I'm sure you've gathered from the previous post (do not make me read this to you, people. Just don't.) K5-12th grade does not have school March 24th and 25th. Here are a couple things you need to know. I will put these in a bulleted list to help you gather the important things. (Kinda hurts my feelings because I pour so much of myself into these weekly newsletters, but I guess it cannot be helped.)
- K3-K4 will be open both days
- 3rd grade through 12th competitors who placed 1st or 2nd and made it to State Competition, you are required to be here during your scheduled performance time. No. You do not have to stay all day.
- Once you have completed all your performance(s) you may go home and enjoy Spring Break which is the following week. Sleep in late. Eat yourself silly. Take basket weaving classes. Whatever. Just don't come to school. No one will be here.
Well? Have You?
Okay now, this is getting a little ridiculous. I realize that I haven't been here for a little bit, but c'mon. If you were gone on vacation, were sick, or just were out due to unforeseen circumstances, you are still required to make up any quizzes and tests and work that you missed. And by the looks of the folders on my desk, yea. Y'all need to be concerned because...
some of you have forgotten to do your work. You know who you are. Don't make me call you out over the loudspeaker. So study up, grab your pencil and maybe some scrap paper and let's knock this out of the park because the end of the 3rd quarter is almost upon us. (March 4th!)
And that reminds me. If you haven't been able to find your Science book, your binder, maybe even your BIBLE (?!?!) come see me. I'm getting quite the collection and to be honest, none of that looks great sitting on my counter in a really big pile.
Don't make me label all your stuff because I will be very creative and I believe you will have regrets.
Spring Sports
Spring sports is almost upon us. That means you need to prepare for things like open fields, baseball practices, softball practices, and soccer practices. If you don't already have a current physical on file in the elementary office, you need to get one before you try out. Yes. This is for real.
Come see me if you have questions. I'll get you the paperwork you need. Be a good team player and get your physical, bring it back to me, and everyone will be happy.
Lost & Found
It's time to have another Lost & Found sale. I look at those bins and I really wonder how this happens so quickly. There are shoes. There are lunch boxes, there were a couple of books (how do you lose these?!) and the water bottles! Oi, so many water bottles.
If you see a bunch of tables up in front of the office that are overflowing with lots of stuff, please bring your $1 and browse. In fact, you may want to bring more than just one dollar. You may want to bring $7. There is no telling what you're going to find. Good luck!
Black History Month
Senator Tim Scott for South Carolina
Tim Scott is no stranger to struggle and hardship. Failing four classes in his freshman year and moving every few years as his single mother worked hard to keep a roof over their heads, it wasn't a surprise that he made bad choices. Maybe it was friends, maybe it was peer pressure, maybe it was all of those things or maybe it was none, but Tim Scott had a decision to make.
Keep going the way he was or he could break the cycle he found himself in and meet the challenges head on.
All those hardships and knocks taught him what many of us fail to see.
When you're down that doesn't mean you're out.
You're just down. Get up. Dust yourself off and keep moving forward.
Tim Scott did just that. After becoming a public servant in the Charleston County Council, he was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives, then he went on to the United States House of Representatives, and finally to the United States Senate where he continues his mission to influence and better the lives of others.
Each of us can learn something important from Senator Scott's story. We're human beings and that means we're going to make mistakes. We will not always be successful. There will be hardships and struggles, but it's what you do with those things that make the difference. When you're knocked down, do you stay down? Or do you pick yourself back up and try again? Have you seen yourself being a positive, Christlike influence on someone else?
What you do for others may seem like a tiny, insignificant thing to you but it could end up being what one person needed to succeed.
Someone who believed in them and didn't give up on them.
