time is running out...
It has begun. We said that it would, and it most definitely has. Re-enrollment for next school year is a thing and it's going on right now. (What in the world?! How did we get to this point already?! School just started, for crying out loud!) Parents, if you want to enroll your current student for next year, now is the time to do it. Seriously. This is not something you want to procrastinate about. Do it. Today. Or tomorrow. But don't wait, because Tuesday of next week (the 15th) is when current FRCS families can enroll their other children not currently enrolled. Which could, if you think about it, take up all the available spots where we don't even get a chance to open enrollment to the public. It could end up being kind of like the last Black Friday sale I went to.
(It was a madhouse. People were everywhere. There was pushing. There was yelling. People were talking about having their friend Guido make personal calls and when you hear the name Guido? That's when you know it just got real. And that was only in the produce section. I didn't even go near the electronics. I don't have a death-wish. I'm smarter than that.)
Hurry. You want to make sure to give us that super pretty green paper and cash (or check) for $300 to save your child's spot. Because come March? FRCS opens enrollment to the public. And who knows? Guido could be waiting to enroll. (I really am just kidding on that. I think I'd die if someone named Guido actually called to enroll. I might panic and pretend I'm the nice worker at the Won Ton place down the road.)
Kidding. I'm not doing that.
February 11
Remember those cutesie little Valentine's Day parties you had when you were growing up? The one where you had to make your own little mailbox and bring in 30 valentines for everyone in your class?
Remember those days? Now it's your turn to go through this as a parent. There's a lot riding on this. I walked down the lower elementary hall last year. These children do not take this lightly. They're serious. Those were not mailboxes I saw lining the halls. Those. Were. Works Of Art. I could tell a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into some of them. I was impressed.
So buckle up and get ready. This Friday, K5-6th grades will be having their Valentine's Day parties. Want more details? Teachers should be getting in contact with you with those details. Any questions? Email them because there's no such thing as a dumb question. (Which there really is. I ask a lot of them, if we're being truthful. And we should always be truthful.)
No School - February 21st
In honor of President's Day, there will be no school February 21st for K3-12th grade. Nope. Not even for 3rd grade. None for 7th. And definitely none for 11th.
zip. zilch. nada.
So please. Don't bring your children here on the 21st. We won't open the doors. We won't feed them lunch. We won't be here for the day. Are you kidding me? That's going to be a hard no.
Why don't you sleep in a little. Get a chicken biscuit from Chick-fil-A, grab one of those coffees that are so delicious they set your diet back for a month or two and enjoy the day.
We'll see you on the 22nd. Bright and early. At 8:00. Well. Before 8 because if you're dropping them off at 8? Yea. They're late.
And one more thing. (Guess I'm feeling a little chatty today. So sorry, but this is important.) REMEMBER! This is a long weekend which means, you still have to have your child's lunch orders in for the week no later than 11:59 on the 21st. (Don't worry. I'll send out a reminder email hopefully on Sunday. Unless I forget. Then it's all over but the crying and the phone calls and the hungry children.)
MS State Basketball Tournament Results
All things come to an end, and some endings are better than others. (Like the ending of Little Women or Wuthering Heights? Terrible. Just terrible. And The Great Gatsby. Another one. Those are the books that taught me to read the last two chapters before I actually purchased a book I would never read again. Yes. I still do this. Don't judge me. Actually go ahead. I don't care. I will continue reading the last couple of chapters so I don't waste my time on a terrible book.)
Anyway, it's the end of the 2022 MS Basketball season. Girls won the championship, with Bryleigh Dempsey winning All-Tournament, and Kayte Madison Bjornstad winning MVP. Our boys took second, with Mason Alcorn winning All-Tournament.
Y'all had a great season - we're proud of you. Congratulations!

Black History Month
Justice Clarence Thomas
Clarence Thomas, the second black Supreme Court Justice, is no stranger to grief, hardship and loss. Born on June 23, 1948 in Savannah, Georgia, his father left him, his older sister, and his mother 2 years later. A brutal fire left them homeless. He faced injustice, ridicule, and prejudices every day.
When some would throw in the towel and give up, Mr. Thomas fought back the only way he knew how; with discipline and strength instilled in him by his maternal grandfather. Earning good grades in schools that he had to fight to attend, he graduated from Yale Law School and worked for Senator John C. Danforth.
In 1990, George H.W. Bush nominated him to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit where he went on to become the second black Supreme Court Justice after Justice Thurgood Marshall retired.
Don't take what you have today for granted. No one gets a free pass when it comes to this thing called life. Everyone is touched with grief, heartache, loss, and disappointment. It's what you do with those things that make a difference.
"Supreme court justices do not rule according to personal views and are not politicians." - Justice Clarence Thomas
101 Random
- Did you know that if you fed your labradoodle scrambled eggs every morning, it would make their fur coat shiny? Yes. I have it on good authority that will happen. Especially true if the eggs are organic and from free-range chickens.
- Crocodiles cannot stick their tongues out. Which is good, because as scary as a meeting with a crocodile would be, a crocodile sticking their tongue out would be truly terrifying. I would not be right if I saw that.
- Slugs have four noses. Very weird. Why do they need four noses? I need to know the answer to this question. I won't sleep well until someone tells me.
- Another terrifying fact is, ostriches can run faster than horses and, males? Yea. They can roar like lions. I'm just not okay knowing this. A racing, roaring bird that can be quite aggressive? What in the world?! Yep. I'd tell y'all just go ahead and run. I'm about to meet Jesus because I can't move.
- There is an average of 50,000 spiders per acre in green areas. So now, when you drive by my house and see that we have nothing but dirt as a yard, you'll know why. But then, that makes me think of those people who live in Arizona and Texas. Those places have very little grass and their spiders are much bigger so, yea. I think I'll just go with what I have. Thanks.
