Spirit Week...Extended?

Last week was wonderful, wasn't it? All those snow days. All that hot chocolate and cold toes and frozen shoes sitting out to drip dry. Which really won't be dry until, oh I don't know, May? Those are the kind of weeks every kid in America dreams about. Probably a few teachers as well. (Let me tell you. If you ever move to a northern state, these type of days are so much more rare. I remember walking to school in four feet of snow. Uphill. Both ways. We all looked like Eskimos and when you took your hat off? Hat hair was the least of your worries. The static could supply energy to a small town if you had long hair.)

But it did kind of put a damper on spirit week. So many plans, so many ideas, so much creativity thrown out the window. I mean, what in the world are you going to do with a bright pink wig and motorcycle jacket?! Sadness.

And as everybody knows, sad students are not happy students (ironic how that works out, isn't it?) We're going to have spirit week next week for JV Hoops! Here's the lineup:

  • Wednesday 1/19 - Mathlete vs Athlete
  • Thursday 1/20 - Career Day
  • Friday 1/21 - Black and Gold Day
So take that jacket back out of storage, fluff up that pink wig and let's do this.

Congratulations Class of 2022 on a job well done for Homecoming! You rose to the occasion when things were, well, different. Which will become a part of your everyday life as an adult. If I could give you one thing to remember, it's this. Life doesn't turn out the way you thought it would. There will be twists, turns, and detours nearly every step of the way. Trusting God, being flexible, and being positive is the way to turn detours into destinations, wrong turns into right turns, and twists into destinies.

Don't forget to congratulate the Class of 2022 Homecoming Queen, Karissa Ramos, when you see her. It's not everyday that you get to talk to a queen. Make the most of it people.

Parent Teacher Conference - 1/17

Did you notice when you put lunches in for the month that we actually have next Monday off? Of course you did.

No? You didn't? This whole thing has taken you by surprise? You're not alone. I myself did a double-take when I looked at the calendar. There will be no school Monday, January 17th, preschool through 12th grade. What does this mean for you? No school. No lunches. No late stay. In a nutshell.

Do you feel that your student could be doing better in their subjects? Would you like to hammer out a game plan with the teacher? Fabulous! This is the day to do this. Schedule an appointment with your child's teacher today.

Remember to prepare yourself for cuteness overload January 28th at 9 am. You have been warned. There will be candy. There will be a parade. There will be smiles, and hopefully, there will be you.

JV Hoops, 1/20-1/21

This part of the Parent Page was kind of referenced to in a previous article but in case you didn't catch it, here's your chance to shine. JV Hoops will be held here at FRCS January 20th through January 21st. In honor of this event, we will be finishing out the days we didn't get to complete for spirit week. Which is a huge load off all the OCD shoulders out there. You know who you are.

  • Wednesday, 1/19 - Mathlete vs Athlete
  • Thursday, 1/20 - Career Day
  • Friday, 1/21 - Black and Gold Day

101 Random But Interesting Tidbits

This Week's Interesting Things -
  • Sea Otters hold hands while sleeping so they don't drift apart. How *cute* is that?!
  • Dolphins call each other by name. And my question? How did people figure this out? Is there a random scientist out there speaking the dolphin language? I need to know this.
  • Octopuses are considered very intelligent. By some, as the most intelligent invertebrate. They've been observed using tools. Which opens another question. What in the world do octopuses need tools for? Are they building something interesting? Is it home improvements? Sheesh. These questions need to be answered by someone.

I didn't see very many wet eyes Monday morning, I didn't hear screaming and gnashing of teeth (yes, I'm talking about parents), and I didn't have a bunch of kiddos in my office asking for medicine at 8:05. I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
