Secondary Christmas Program, 12/7

Didn't we just have a program? Oh wait. We're having an Elementary Christmas Program tonight (starts at 7 p.m.). Don't forget your cameras because it's cute.

But no. Tonight's not the program I'm talking about. Next week, December 7th (Tuesday), join us in the church auditorium at 7 p.m. for our FRCS Secondary Christmas program. Does this include you? Well it does if you have a student in 6th-12th grade. If you don't, you're more than welcome to join us anyway and be blessed. See you there!

Christmas Project, now through 12/15

Do you have any idea what you can do with $875? Sure you could buy a lot of nice shoes. Unless you make a lot more money than I do, then this wouldn't apply to you because that might cover one super nice pair of shoes that most of us only dream of. No. A pair of Jimmy Choo shoes are not on my hey I need this list. Or it could buy a Prada purse. Or a Louis. Oh my word, I can't help but stare at those Louis's. Goodnight those purses cost a lot.

But I digress. This year, FRCS is raising money to purchase rolls of paper for the B&L Foundation in Shelbyville. And just one roll costs $875. But the things you can do with that paper. 1 roll of paper can print 500 Bibles and 2000 New Testaments. Which is pretty cool.

So now through December 15th, we're raising money for rolls of paper to print Bibles. Each class, as in 1A and 1B, 2A and 2B, 3A and 3B, (and the list continues. I'm sure you get the picture) are trying to raise enough money to buy 1 roll of paper. Imagine, if each grade could raise enough money for 1 roll, that would be a total of 22 rolls of paper which could print 11,000 Bible or 44,000 New Testaments. (Please don't check my math and come into the office and be all hey you were wrong, yada yada yada. I'm a writer. My math skills are mediocre at best. Unless there's a sale. Then I'm a force to be reckoned with.)

What an impact that could have on our society. If you would like to donate, you can do so toward your child's class goal or if you forgot which class your child goes to, you're more than welcome to donate here at the office. We will get it to where it needs to go.

So I was sitting here trying to remember what day of the week it is, (Monday while I'm writing this. I have to start early or I panic and no one wants Amanda to panic. It's not pretty.) and it hit me. People, we have passed Thanksgiving. You know how I know that? Because our lovely kitchen ladies and the Honor Society did such a great job last Tuesday that I had to try really hard to impress my family with my cooking skills. Did it happen? I'm not required to tell you.

But we wanted to thank each of you who came out and joined us for the luncheon, as well as thank those fabulous kitchen ladies and Honor Society students that helped make this year's Thanksgiving Luncheon a success. Y'all did a great job and we appreciate each of you!

End of Second Quarter, 12/8

When you say, this is the end, there's a sort of finality to that statement. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. As in saying, "This is the end of the mint chocolate chip ice cream" would be bad. But if you said, "This is the end of the second quarter as well as the first semester and I have all my work completed and my grades are fantastic" that would be good.

Keep on top of it. Let's knock this out of the ballpark and get those grades in and up and let's finish this first part of the year strong because there's no do-overs.

Yea, we need to have another L&F sale. If you've lost it, it's probably in those bins over there and no one wants to dig through those the way they are. So here's what we will do. I'll have some tables set up in front of my office, I'll dig through everything (ew) and set it out as nicely as possible, and you can come by and have a hey day buying all the items you want for $1. But let's do this next week. Because this week I'm tired and it's already Thursday. Thanks.

Next week is our Academic Testing for TACS. As in, Monday through Wednesday selected students 3rd grade through 12th will get called out of class for testing in specific areas like Advanced Math, Algebra, Creative Writing, and other fabulous subjects. So be on the lookout for an email with more details if your student was selected to participate. Remember, the top 5 places will go on to state testing to represent FRCS at the state level. What happens if your child makes it past state? We will let you know.

Tidbits

This Week's Interesting Things -
  • The term 'mouses' is plurally correct if you're talking about the computer thing-a-ma-bobs. (<--technical term) and the speed of a computer mouse is measured in...(wait for it)...mickeys. You're welcome.
  • A 'berry' is a fruit with a thick outer layer, a middle containing the edible part, and the inner part that contains seeds. Which. Again. Wait for it. Makes a banana a berry and a strawberry...well, not one.
  • The technical term for the sound your stomach makes when it growls is called 'borborygmus'. But I don't recommend telling your mom that your stomach did its borborygmus thing or you might find yourself at the doctor's office.
  • They say that dogs can sense human emotion. I honestly think it's that they can smell really really well and know what's cooking or what you've been eating. I mean, really. Can someone prove me wrong on this? I didn't think so.

Questions -

  • What happened in 1961 that won't happen again until 6009?
  • If there are three apples and you took away two, how many apples do you have?
  • What is Rupert the Bear's middle name?

and one dad joke -

  • What's ET short for?

I didn't see very many wet eyes Monday morning, I didn't hear screaming and gnashing of teeth (yes, I'm talking about parents), and I didn't have a bunch of kiddos in my office asking for medicine at 8:05. I'd say that was a win win and another win for the start of a new school year! But, as with anything new, it can take just a little bit to settle into a routine. And ...
