So how's it going? I mean, like really going? With an entire week under our belts, I'm thinking we have it going on. We have it under control. The kids have it under control. Not one tear. Not one hiccup. Not one bump in the road. Right?

No? Praise the Lord, because there for a moment I thought I was the only one who is a complete mess. (Not one comment please. Thank you.)

Just as a precautionary reminder though, let's recap on what to do in a COVID situation. Let's take a quick test to see if you understand.

  1. Your dad who lives in your home starts feeling like he's coming down with something. Maybe a fever. Maybe some chills. He decides to get tested. You, the student, stays home until a negative result comes back. True or False?_____
  2. You have a test that you didn't study for and you start to feel woozy. You don't think you can go on. You put the thermometer next to the light bulb until it reaches 132° and you show your mom. This is a legitimate excuse to stay home. True or False?_____
  3. Your cousin who doesn't live with you but you visited with three weekends ago tests positive. He was close enough to steal the hot dog off your plate at the family potluck. This is an excuse to stay home, True or False? ______
  4. Your neighbor's pet fish Freddy was looking suspicious. You tried to warn them that he had COVID and sure enough, he was belly up the next morning. You should stay home to attend his funeral because, well, you know. You were close. No one understood you like Goldfish Freddy. Is this a legitimate excuse to stay home? _____

The only scenario where you get to stay home is #1. That's it. Sorry about the goldfish but in my experience, fish funerals don't last very long, if your mom falls for the old 132° thermometer trick, there's a whole new article in your future, and your cousin really shouldn't be stealing. Even hot dogs. Hot dog stealing is just not right.

In all seriousness though, if you or someone in your home is being tested, stay home until a negative result comes back. If it comes back positive, well, stay home for 10 days from the start of symptoms, contact the office and let us know, and do your work.

Virtual Learning?

Let's say that you or someone in your home has COVID. What's the next step? What do we do from here? Do we play video games all day and get a free pass for 10 days?

Ha. You kidder you.

No. You're still required to do the work. (Say that in a low raspy voice to make it sound more ominous. It's funner that way.)

First step? Check your email. You should have gotten, or should quite soon be getting an email similar to this:

With the concern of COVID and the possibility of having to do Virtual School for a few days if your student is quarantined, let me give you some updates that will help your student stay connected and receive the great teaching that you have come to expect.

Our school is utilizing the Microsoft software called Teams and we are asking all 7th through 12th Grade students to utilize this software for remote access learning. Each family needs to download Microsoft Teams to a device that can be used for virtual school if the need arises. The software is free and can be downloaded to a computer or tablet.

We have created user accounts for all students to utilize.  Here is the information that you need for your student:

Puddin Tane  (<--I always wanted this name just so I could be sassy and not get smacked for it.)

Username/Email Address: puddin.tane@frcsminutemen.com

Password: (Your teacher should give this to you)

You can use the following link to download MS Teams for free. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app

As part of Microsoft Teams, we also provide your student with the Microsoft Office Suite for them to use. Your students have access to Microsoft Outlook for Email as well as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  To access their email and these apps, please navigate to http://mail.franklinroad.org.  The credentials are the same as above.

If you are having any issues, please do not hesitate to contact - helpdesk@franklinroad.org

So. Now that you have been given the information, let me be the first to say that it would be so much simpler if you just wouldn't get sick. But if you must, you must, and we will miss you for 10 days.

Volleyball

You know those moments where you're just super proud of someone? Yea, you know what I'm talking about. Those volleyball girls were UNSTOPPABLE this past weekend in Georgia. And by unstoppable I mean they won *every* game down there. Which is pretty awesome.

Next time you see Presley Applegate, be sure to congratulate her on being MVP and Karissa Ramos for being All-Tournament.

Y'all did awesome!

SmartCards ends September 3rd

SmartCards

I feel like I've used this title before. Have I? Does this seem a little redundant to you? Well, just because I may have used a similar title, I guarantee that I have changed quite a few words. Did you read them all? If you have, you're fabulous. If you haven't, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Fine. I'll shorten it.

The time to earn $2 per SmartCard sold is nearly at an end. Which means you need to be prepared to return any unsold SmartCards to the office by September 3rd or you will be charged for them. And that may make you a little grumpy because they're $20 apiece. We thank you in advance.

Spiritwear Store

Have you stopped by? Did you check out the items the FRCS Online Spiritwear Store has to offer? Did you fill your cart only to remove everything five times to put it all back in?

Well at least you're not torturing a living retail worker anymore with the wreckage you leave on shelves as you pass them on your way to the checkout line. (I call this The Great Purge and I apologize to any and all retail workers that I have hurt by doing this very thing. I'm not sure, but I think it's a medical condition. Called spendtoomuchphobia.)

Haven't been there yet? What in the world, people? Click this link, look around, and enjoy.

2. The wise men brought three gifts to baby Jesus - Myrrh, Frankincense, and...?

3. What was the name of Boaz's wife?

4. A horse is tied to a five meter rope in front of an old barn. Six meters behind the horse is a bale of hay. Without breaking his rope, the horse is able to eat the hay whenever he chooses. How is this possible?
