Brownie Sundaes This Friday, 3/21

There are just some days that are born awesome. Fridays are those kind of days. But there's one thing that can make a Friday 10x better. Brownie Sundae Friday would be it. I mean think about it. $2 for ooey gooey chocolatey goodness would put a smile on just about everyone's face.

Spring Concert, 3/24

The annual FRCS Spring Concert is Monday the 24th at 7:00 pm in the church auditorium. Be sure to come early so you can swing by and look at all the awesome projects that made it into the TACS State Fine Arts Competition. Trust me. You don't want to miss any of it!

Lost & Found Sale, 3/24-3/26

Next week, we will be having a Monday through Wednesday Lost & Found sale. If you've seen the bins, you know why. If you've read and paid attention to the Parent Page, you know why it's Monday through Wednesday instead of the normal Wednesday through Friday. Everything's $1.

Fine Arts Competition, 3/27-3/28

I've mentioned this a couple times already so I'll be brief. Thursday and Friday, the 27th and 28th is TACS State Fine Arts Competition here at FRCS. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will not have school. (Preschool is open during normal school hours.) Competitors in 3rd through 12th grade need to be ready to go in their spot at their allotted competition time. If you're anything like me, you'll probably want to get here a little bit early to help get those nervous jitters under control. Good luck to each of you!

Click below for practice and competition times.

Spring Break, 3/31-4/4

I'm pretty confident you already know this. If you don't, you haven't been paying attention. Spring Break is March 31st - April 4th. Everyone, I mean, everyone will return to a regular schedule on April 7th. Make memories, have fun, and be safe!

Elementary Field Day, 4/11

The day every elementary student has been waiting for all year is nearly upon us. When they can prove who is the king of the jump rope. The queen of the hula hoop. The one who rules them all. They're in it to win it. Trust me. This is a dog eat dog kind of event and it is taken very seriously by all who enter those fields. Including parents. Mostly parents. But I digress.

Here's a few things you need to know:

  • lunch is provided by the 6th grade class and is a fundraiser for their graduation
  • you can order your special lunch via Renweb and it automatically charges to your account (woohoo!)
  • if you order via Renweb, there is no need to send in the flyer below
  • if you want to pay cash, you may do so either at the door or via the office
I think that's it. Oh wait. You may want to be prepared for a variety of things: you might want to bring sunscreen, an umbrella, a jacket, a coat, scarves and gloves...just kidding. But please, keep an eye on the weather and dress accordingly. It's springtime in Tennessee. Even the weatherman doesn't know what's coming.

The lunch orders need to be turned in April 7th. As in the day we get back from Spring Break. Uh huh. This could be a recipe for disaster, or it could be your finest moment. The choice is up to you.

Achievement Testing, 4/14-4/17

Remember to prepare your little scholars for Achievement Testing the week after they get back from Spring Break. Studies prove that a good breakfast helps that grey matter work better for times such as these, and a good snack would help boost them through that middle of the test fog.

April 14-17. You have been warned.

Lunch Reminder

Cross your fingers, but I think Spring is here. Could be wishful thinking, though. I did go out to my car the other morning to frost on the windshield. I thought that was a little excessive. But anyway.

Just wanted to send out a reminder that you're welcome to pick your students up for lunch but because we've grown so much (that's a good problem) we don't have room to seat everyone if parents came to eat and stayed on campus. (Not a good problem.)

Because of this, we ask that if you'd like to have lunch with your child (yay!) please sign them out in the office and take them to your car or a restaurant, but we do ask that you do not stay here and eat with them. Trust me. If everyone started doing this, you'd understand why we're asking you to just take them out.

We simply don't have the room. Thank you for your help in this matter - we appreciate it!

Out and About FRCS

Jr. Trip to Washington D.C.

Student's thoughts on the D.C. trip:

"Hi!! on behalf of my class, we’d love to begin by thanking FRCS for blessing us with an experience like this! The best part was the holocaust museum! seeing the upmost heartache of the people who experienced such a horrific tragedy." - E.C.

"My favorite part was the Metro system." - R.F.

101 Random

  • Most people cannot lick their elbows. Which would make things difficult if you happened to need to lick something off it, something like ice cream. Or chocolate.
  • Admit it. You just tried it to see if I was correct, didn't you. ;)
  • I've read that before alarm clocks were made, people would actually pay someone to come knock on their window to wake them up. I can see this as being two-fold beneficial. 1. You wake up at the correct time. 2. You have a major dose of adrenaline because someone's knocking on your window. Could it be creepier than that?!
  • It has been said that your brain uses the same amount of energy as a 10 watt bulb. And yet we all know at least one person who uses significantly less than that. Or perhaps they're just using the eco version. That's it.
  • I've also read that your brain cannot feel pain. Which makes me wonder, WHO volunteered to let them find out using their brain?! Maybe it was the person using the economy lightbulb.
  • Did you know a pregnant goldfish is called a twit? It's true. On a side note, I guess I'm the one using the econo light bulb here, because, how in the world can you tell when your pet goldfish is expecting?!
  • One Dad Joke: What's an astronauts favorite part of a computer? The space bar...you're welcome.

It felt like it barely even started before it was already over. But, no use crying over the inevitable. School had to restart so right now seems like as good a time as any. So welcome back to the returning students - we missed you. School just isn't the same when y'all aren't here. And welcome to the new students - we cannot wait to make your acquaintance and get to know you better. I hope your week - and your student's week - was excellent. If it wasn't, well, I hope it was mostly good. Of course, there were some kinks along the way and that elementary secretary seemed a little scratchy at times (I'm so very sorry. I hate being scratchy and I am determined t...
